The Master of Public Administration (MPA) offered by SDA Bocconi School of Management is a one-year full-time program taught in English to students from around the world.
The MPA helps international students develop specialized knowledge and personal qualities for professional work in the public sector and associated institutions both locally and globally.
State-of-the-art scientific background, actionable knowledge, professionalism and openness to diversity make the MPA a unique, once-in-a-life learning experience for future managers of public interests.
The MPA is designed for students who are looking for solid public management tools and want to pursue a managerial career in governmental and non-governmental organizations, international institutions, as well as private businesses working with the public sector.

Candidates are required to have

  • University Degree in any discipline.
  • International profile with at least two years professional experience.
  • Fluency in English. Candidates whose mother tongue is not English are required to submit a TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or CPE result.
  • GRE/GMAT or SDA Test. Details on the SDA Test will be communicated by the Admissions Service once the pre-selection is complete.
  • Admissions interview.

This sequence is focused on a detailed understanding of the innovating process as critical factor for the development of the public sector.
Specific attention is given to the ability of the decision making process and competitiveness useful to management and innovation in administration affairs.

Measuring the value produced by an  organization is the starting point to understand the opportunities it faces and the investments it can sustain. Starting from a thorough understanding of public budgeting and finance, the second sequence provides tools for measurement and evaluation  useful for managers of public sector.

Core competences of an organization lie in smart people and in effective and efficient organizational processes. This sequence aims to understand how to design the organization, fuel it with the energy of smart and committed people and orchestrate a system of incentives that aim to both exploit existing competences and explore new scenarios.

Tuition Fees

The MPA has a mandatory attendance policy for the entire Program and it is impossible to engage in professional activities during the 12 month Program.

Admission Procedure Fee: € 100 fee

Tuition Fee for the MPA 2016-2017 program

The total fee is € 28,000* to be paid in four instalments:
First Installment € 7,000 upon acceptance of admission to the Program
Second Installment € 7,000 by 21st October 2016
Third Installment € 7,000 by 27th January 2017
Fourth Installment € 7,000 by 28th April 2017


Early Bird Fee of € 25,000*:
*An “early bird fee” of € 25,000 will be granted to candidates who have been admitted and paid the deposit fee before the 1st March 2016.
First Installment € 7,000 Non-refundable deposit payment due on registration
Second Installment € 7,000 by 21st October 2016
Third Installment € 7,000 by 27th January 2017
Fourth Installment € 4,000 by 28th April 2017 (for “early birds”)

Fees include:

  • Most teaching materials
  • Access to the School's database and facilities.

Participants must provide their own laptop.

Online Pre-Courses

Online Pre-courses are not mandatory but recommended for students who do not have a business background.

Personal Expenses

Personal expenses will vary significantly depending on each individual’s lifestyle. In general, the cost of living in Milano is comparable to that of other major European cities. We provide you with a forecast of monthly expenses as experienced by MPA students in recent years:

Scholarships and Tuition Waivers

Scholarship program “Bolashak”

Bolashak (meaning Future in Kazakh language) scholarships were initiated by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to support the most talented Kazakhs in pursuing higher education at leading universities around the world. Every year the Kazakh Government selects between 1000 and 1500 Bolashak scholarship recipients for postgraduate programs (MSc, MA and PhD) on a competitive basis.

Bocconi University and SDA Bocconi School of Management are among top 200 institutions eligible to receive Bolashak scholars from Kazakhstan to study MPA program starting from 2016. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis and upon enrollment to the MPA program. Bolashak scholarship covers tuition fees, book allowances, and living, travel and visa expenses and provides a monthly allowance of USD 2,000 per student.

Please refer to the new list of the eligible international universities approved by the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan, recommended for higher education, language courses provided for the winners of the scholarship and awarding of the international Bolashak scholarship for 2016; preferred specialization areas to obtain higher education under the international Bolashak scholarship scheme in 2016 are listed here.

Documents submission period to Bolashak CIP in 2016 is as below:
    •    From 11 April to 13 May 2016;
    •    From 13 June to 29 July 2016;
    •    From 15 August to 30 September 2016.
The scholarship awarding period is from 10 May 2016 to 10 January 2017. 

Please note that all interested candidates will be required to submit the application for the MPA Program by the indicated deadline as well as apply to the Bolashak Program.

Fulbright Award for MPA 2016-2017 candidates 

The Fulbright Program in Italy, jointly sponsored by the U.S. and Italian governments, offers grants for U.S. and Italian citizens to study abroad and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and of Italy.
The U.S. – Italy Fulbright Commission and SDA Bocconi School of Management signed an agreement to establish the Fulbright Award for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program 2016-2017. 
The Fulbright Award covers full tuition fee of the MPA program (€ 28,000) and living expenses including travel (€ 13,800). 
The deadline to apply for the Fulbright Award is 13 October 2015
Please note that all interested candidates must apply to the Fulbright Program and that only shortlisted finalists will be required to submit the application for the MPA program (MPA 2016-2017 program deadline is 16 May 2016).

Loans and Funding

For candidates

The School assists candidates with their search for funding by supplying the necessary documentation and encouraging them to explore all scholarship and loan possibilities. SDA Bocconi provides opportunities forlow-interest loans to admitted students, thanks to agreements with partner banks.
Furthermore, the University provides international students with information about possible sources for financing in several countries.

For companies and institutions

Companies and Institutions can fund training programs for their employees using Joint Inter-Professional Funds. These programs, which can be arranged by a single company or a group of companies, can be targeted at individuals or organizations, and can be specific to an industry sector or a geographical region.
