MBA – Manchester Business School

Part-time Global MBA

Raise your aspirations on this world class, international part-time MBA programme which focuses on you as a leader from the very beginning. From entrepreneurship to international finance you will benefit from the latest thinking and hone the skills that will set you apart in today's competitive marketplace.

Programme Structure

The programme structure consist of five semesters, each lasting six months, during which students will study a combination of core and elective courses. This is followed by a period of project work. The programme can be completed in three years, although students have up to five years to complete the course.

All students follow the same MBA structure regardless of the different learning pathways undertaken. (Students on the Finance Accelerated programme complete within 24-30mths, and do not take any accounting modules.) New students are required to go through the following sessions before proper work begins.

Induction

All new students go through an induction period to familiarise themselves with the programme. During the induction, students will meet academic staff and fellow executives that will provide the necessary support throughout the programme to ensure that your focus is on the programme. This is also a good time for networking.

Leadership

Students embark on a practical leadership course at the start of the programme. This prepares students to be future leaders within their industry. The course explores the challenges of contemporary leadership, with opportunities to apply the principles learnt, as well as to help understand the type of leader you are. The aim is to help students build qualities and capabilities that will reinforce the rest of the programme.

Admissions

There are two intakes per year for the MBA programmes commencing in January and July. To enrol onto these programmes, you will need to have the following criteria:

  • four years managerial experience
  • a recognised degree, or
  • eight to ten years managerial experience in lieu of a recognised degree.

You can always attend our preview events, taking place at different times of the year. These are events where you can speak with our team and network with students and alumni who can share their personal experiences. If you need any further assistance or would like to speak to a course counsellor, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Workshops

Workshops on the global pathway can be taken in the UK or at one of our global international centres, and present a valuable opportunity to share learning with colleagues and to build up a global network of contacts:

  • Residential workshops provide a minimum 24 hours of face-to-face contact per course which is more direct contact than many part-time on campus programmes.
  • Courses without residential workshops are complemented with online workshops that consist of online discussions and tutorials linked to a formative assessment.
  • Learn from guest speakers.
  • Socialise with classmates.

Workshops are a prescribed element of the course and attendance is required for at least 80% of the workshops. The number of MBA students in each workshop session is kept deliberately low, typically 25-30, to maintain their high quality and interactive nature.

Workshop sessions are delivered by senior faculty and a pool of experts from outside the School who are considered leaders in their particular fields. They travel the world teaching at our global centres, so you get the same, consistently high standard of teaching no matter where you are based.

Projects

Live Company Project Experience

Working in selected groups, and through the use of a blended learning model, you will closely mimic a real working environment.

You will be required to interact with other members of your group, and with the external company employees, through email, discussion groups, video conferencing and face to face meetings. During this time you will also conduct your own personal research and studies.

You will be supported by an academic supervisor, hand-picked for their expert knowledge.

This project will involve:

  • Team-working
  • Completion of a 10,000-word dissertation
  • 6-12 months study

In the event that a student has corporate sponsorship, an individual project may be undertaken that helps their organisation achieve its goals.

Core courses

During the programme, students will study 11 core courses, all designed to give you a thorough grounding in the essentials of global business and management.

Elective courses

To adapt the programme to suit your varied needs and interest, specialist elective courses can be taken to compliment your core courses. These electives cover a wide spectrum of subjects vital for all global executives. Build the MBA programme that has the right fit for you.

Assessment

Students enrolled on the Part-time Global MBA will be assessed on the basis of examinations and continuous assessment, the latter comprising of two assignments at set points:

Assignments - 50%

Each course will be assessed on the basis of two pieces of assignments, contributing 50% to the overall course mark. These assignments will either be on the basis of two individual pieces of written work, or one individual written assignment coupled with an assessed group assignment during the residential workshops.

The assessment method is determined by each individual course director and is based on optimising the student learning experience and reflection process - students will be informed of the assessment method for each module at the start of each trimester.

Exams - 50%

A three hour open book* examination, forms an integral part of our MBA programme and carries 50% weighting towards the assessment of each course. Manchester Business School Worldwide operates a global network of exam centres, enabling students to take their exams at one of the many exam venues we have worldwide.

  • A limited number of courses will not be open book.
  • Some courses will not have examinations
