Trained expertise in community leadership and social development is increasingly needed in a rapidly changing world. A multi-disciplinary understanding of the issues and challenges surrounding the practice of community leadership and social development is crucial, particularly for persons working within the civil and social service sectors. This programme reflects Singapore University of Social Sciences's commitment to support the growing need for effective community leaders who can play a progressive role in Singapore's social development. Taught by a team of distinguished academics and professionals, the programme combines academic rigour with practical policy-focused skills development.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; therefore applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early.
Applicants should be Singapore citizens, permanent residents or residents in Singapore. In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

• An undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
• Good communication skills (written and spoken English)
• At least two years of work experience
• 21 years and above

Applicants must complete and submit an online application to Singapore University of Social Sciences by the specified deadline.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo one or more interviews and/or take such written admission or other evaluation tests as may be prescribed by Singapore University of Social Sciences.

The offer of admission is dependent on the number of places available in individual programmes.

The decision of the Admissions Committee of Singapore University of Social Sciences is final and binding. Singapore University of Social Sciences reserves the right to refuse admission and is not obliged to offer an explanation for the non-admission of unsuccessful candidates.
Students complete six compulsory core courses, four electives (to be chosen from a basket of electives) and a dissertation (which can be substituted by two additional courses, subject to approval). Upon successful completion of the six core courses, a Graduate Diploma will be awarded by Singapore University of Social Sciences​. Courses may also be taken individually as a graduate certification course (limited places available).

  1. 1. How many intake are there in a year for Master of Community Leadership and Social Development (MCLSD)? 
    One intake a year; every July.

  2. 2. What is the duration to complete the MCLSD? 
    The programme takes an estimated 2 years to complete.

  3. 3. What are the minimum and maximum durations of MCLSD? 
    MCLSD is a minimum 2-year programme and student may stretch to a maximum of 4 years to complete.

  4. 4. How many courses do students take in each semester? 
    Students are recommended to complete 3 courses per semester.

  5. 5. When are the lessons scheduled? 
    Lessons are mostly scheduled on 4 Saturdays per course from 8.30am to 5.30pm, with a lunch break of an hour. However, the classes may be schedulued on other days of the week when necessary.


  6. 6. Will I be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development if I were to complete the six compulsory core courses? 

    Yes, you will be awarded a Graduate Diploma awarded by Singapore University of Social Sciences.
