Introduction 

The MIT-SUTD Dual Masters' Programme is offered in collaboration by the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in Singapore, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. This programme supports outstanding individuals to maximise their potential in the fields of technology and design.

This programme is for bright, talented, enthusiastic and passionate individuals who are committed to a high level of achievement, not only for his own personal enrichment, but also in his professional and academic development. We are looking for candidates from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, with a broad range of personal and professional experiences. Scholarship Successful candidates to the programme may be provided with full scholarship, which covers:

  • Full tuition fees in MIT and SUTD
  • Monthly stipend in MIT and SUTD
  • Overseas medical insurance
  • Return economy-class airfare between MIT and SUTD

 

 

 

Admission Requirements

Potential applicants to the MIT-SUTD Dual Masters' Programme should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or science, or equivalent.
  • An appropriate GRE/GMAT score.
    • GRE DI Code is 7398
    • GMAT* code is PNB-GL-03 (SCM) or PNB-GL-80 (SDM)
      * only applicable to the Supply Chain Management (SCM) and System Design and Management (SDM) programmes
  • Proficiency in English.
    IELTS is required if English is not your medium of instruction in your undergraduate studies.
  • A Statement of Interest
    You may state your experience, research interest and passion for the topic of study. Students are encouraged to describe how they can use the coursework learning at MIT and apply the knowledge in research at SUTD (3000 words).

A holistic selection process will be adopted. Other than academic achievements, candidates will also be assessed on their maturity, ambition and drive, work experience, English language skill, managerial progress, leadership potential, personal objectives and academic aptitude.

Programme Details  

This is a full-time programme where students will spend up to one year in MIT, USA, and the other year in SUTD, Singapore. Upon completion, each student will graduate with two masters degrees: one from MIT and another from SUTD.

Coursework at MIT

Students will spend 9 to 13 months learning from MIT faculty who possess a wealth of teaching experience and research expertise. Each student will pursue his/her study in one of the following programmes:

  1. Civil and Environmental Engineering’s Master of Engineering Program, specialising in one of four tracks:
    • Environmental and Water Quality Engineering
    • Geotechnology
    • High-Performance Structures
    • Transportation
  2. Master of Engineering in Advanced Manufacturing and Design
  3. System Design and Management Program, leading to a Master of Science in Engineering and Management
  4. Integrated Design & Management Program, leading to a Master of Science in Engineering and Management
  5. Supply Chain Management Program, leading to a Master of Engineering in Logistics [View programme brochure]

Research at SUTD

Students will work on research with experts in their fields. After completing a second thesis by research, they will obtain one of these three Masters’ degrees based on their focus areas.

Please note the following for tuition fee payment:

  • Students are required to pay annual tuition fees for the academic year at the start of a new academic year.

  • For Singapore Citizen students and Singapore Permanent Resident students paying subsidised fees, Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the tuition fees is subsidised by MOE. The fee amounts quoted here are exclusive of GST.

  • GST subsidy for International Students is withdrawn from the AY2016 intakes and beyond. International students will be liable to pay GST on their tuition fees payable. The fee amounts quoted here are inclusive of GST.

  • For students paying non-subsidised fees, GST on the tuition fees is to be borne by students.

 

Compulsory Miscellaneous Fees

In addition to tuition fees, students are required to pay the Compulsory Miscellaneous Fees (CMF), which are payable as long as they remain registered as students with the University. This fee is non-refundable.

Fee Billing and Payment Modes 

Students will receive their bills no later than third week from the commencement of each academic year and payment is due 7 days from the billing date. An email notification will be sent to the student's SUTD email account when the bill is ready. Students will be able to check their bills via the SUTD Student Portal. A penalty of $50 will be imposed for late payment.

Students are able to pay their bills via cheque, cashier order, demand draft, NETS, credit card, GIRO, DBS/POSB ATM, DBS/POSB internet banking and eNETS via the SUTD student portal.

Refund Policy 

Students who apply for leave of absence or leave SUTD, either through withdrawal of their own accord or end of candidature by SUTD, after two weeks from commencement of each academic year will be liable to pay fees for the entire term. Requests for refund will not be considered.

Application Process

Interested applicants to the MIT-SUTD Dual Masters' Programme must submit separate applications to MIT and SUTD.

Each university conducts its own admission process and separate letters of offer from the respective universities will be mailed to the successful candidates. Thus, an offer of place in one university does not automatically mean that the candidate has also been offered a place in the other.
